Music Therapy 5/30/2024

On May 30, 2024, Danyelle Elder, Lead Music Therapist with Healing Sounds RVA, conducted a Music Therapy session with the members and staff. She led a brisk discussion about music and our recovery/development and performed a ‘Hello’ song in which she noted all attendees by name. Danyelle then distributed instruments and led a free-form jam session. We attendees generally had a very positive experience and look forward to more sessions.

TRAGEDY???

I REALLY NEVER KNEW LOVE BY OTHERS, UNTILL TRAGEDY. I DIDN'T KNOW IT AT FIRST FOR THEY WERE BEHIND ME, BACKING ME UP SILENTLY CHEERING ME ON. HELPING ME BEAT THE DARKNESS BEFORE THE DAWN. I AM FINALLY STARTING TO SEE THE LIGHT. REACHING, GRABBING AND PULLING MYSELF UP FROM UNDER THE DARK OF THE NIGHT. I GLANCE UP ASTONISHED TO SEE THAT IN THEIR OWN WAY MOST OTHER PEOPLE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME.

Who is really in control ???

We read " We the people of the United States of America", but in my opinion the mass of people are not in control. It is based on who has the most dollars and or power, and that turns out to be fewer than you think.

Social Program

About last week's Social Program - Joe's pizza and an outing to see 'One Love' at the theater - Bryan G noted that the movie was good but not exactly what was expected. He enjoyed the overall experience and chances to socialize with other members. Bryan would like to try indoor skydiving as a social program.

Yesterday we had delicious food from Chicken Fiesta, and it was very delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

THE LONE SOLDIER

THE LONE SOLDIER By: Bryan Gunn I walk with no man, I always walk alone. My soul made of fire, my heart of stone. I have no pain ignoring all that I feel, with bones of iron and nerves of steel. This is what I portray, fooling you all. My emotions so strong, my defenses so tall. But inside I am weak having unsettled war. Not knowing why I battle or what this struggle is for. This war is unending, it is not new. No shots are heard, but damage is true. What is going on here, what is this for, I am a Lone Soldier in a private war.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.

What's for the Social Program ?

The social program is going to be Thursday the 18th of January and we're going to the movies and having pizza !!!

Inclimate Weather Policy

As we get deeper into the winter season here are some of the highlights of our policy on inclement weather Executive Director or designee will make decision as to whether program will be open or closed to members. If program is closed to members, members will be informed as soon as possible, so be on the lookout for a call to you or your caregiver from staff if bad weather is in the forecast, also do not be surprised if your ride is cancelled! Program Coordinators will update agency voicemail to reflect the status of program operations if able. Staff will contact you again when the program is reopened!
